Coverage guide
Business owner’s policy (BOP)
A business owner’s policy combines general liability and property insurance in one package, usually with cover for lost income after a covered loss. It suits shops, offices and restaurants with a physical location. On CoRisk, a BOP application goes to carriers including Travelers, and you see each answer before you decide.

What does a business owner’s policy cover?
Three things in one policy:
- General liability: injury and property damage claims from customers and other people.
- Your property: equipment, inventory and fit-out, owned or leased.
- Lost income if a covered loss shuts the business for a while.
Who is a BOP for?
Small businesses with a physical location — a shop, an office, a restaurant — that own equipment or inventory worth protecting, or whose landlord requires coverage.
Which carriers quote a BOP on CoRisk?
A BOP application on CoRisk is matched by state and goes to the connected BOP carriers, including Travelers. The carrier answers with a price, a referral to its underwriter, or a decline with its reason.
What does a BOP leave out?
A BOP does not cover your own employees’ injuries (that is workers’ comp), mistakes in professional advice (professional liability), or usually flood and earthquake damage. Data breaches usually need a cyber policy.
Frequently asked questions
Is a BOP cheaper than buying the policies separately?
Often, because the carrier prices the package together. It also means one policy and one renewal instead of two.
Does a BOP cover flood or earthquake?
Usually not. Flood and earthquake are almost always excluded and need their own policy.
Does a BOP cover my employees if they get hurt?
No. Injuries to your own employees are covered by workers’ compensation, which is a separate policy.
Who places this insurance?
